Mission 3 #4

Yesterday we got all the other shots we needed. We got the walking shot to the post box and walking back to the house. We took the modern scene too. The shots we got were really good but I still didn't know how well they were going to come together. But I'm staying positive.

The production of the movie was very fun to do and I am hoping we will make more projects like this one. But now it's time to go to the college to start editing this film. We decided to split the duties to make it faster and smoother.

I will find all the good shots from each scene and rename them in order in a different folder. Matthew will be making all the writing for the film such as the credits title and so on and Daniel will find 2 songs and a glitch sound effect that we will use for this film and find how to create a mask transition which we will use for the scene just before the post box scene.

Editing this film took very very long but we took turns to give each other breaks. The more we edited this film the better we felt about how this will turn out. Having some knowledge on colour grading i decided to do that part. Instead of going full black and white for the old scenes we decided to desaturate it and give it a brown/orange tone to it which we all thought looked way better.

Matthew added the credits and so on in the film and Daniel done the masking transition.

Seeing the transition done we got so hyped over it. It turned out so well.

Seeing the end product we were so proud of our hard work. over all we spend well over 20 hours which hopefully can be seen in our end product.

We hope you all will enjoy our finished product as much as we did when we saw it the first time. This will go straight into my portfolio.

Mission 3 #3

Welcome back. This is our first day in shooting the film. We decided that Matthew will be the actor and Daniel and myself will film. We started by taking the first scene where there is the intro of Matthew walking in the room and the shot of writing the Letter to his friend Jamies. 

We got wide shots, close-up shots and mid-range shots over the shoulder. Having a group of 3 like minded people really helped with this production. We all added brilliant ideas that worked so well together. Having the necessary gear really helped a lot as well. 

The gimbal shots were taken on the Canon M50. The close-up's were taken with Daniels Nikon camera on a 50mm f1.8 lens and the over the shoulder shots were taken on my Sony a7 Mark II.

So far what shots we got turned out well but I don't know how well this idea/film will turn out.

Mission 3 #2

Daniel, Matthew and myself met up to plan what we will be doing. We all decides to go with Digital Journalism. We brainstormed verbally what we could do and we came up with a few ideas. Such as making a documentary video on us talking about the different ways people used to communicate in the past compare to now a days.

We decides to make a short film on the idea of how communicating changed over time. The idea we have is to have the film starting in black and white of a man writing a letter and changing into a modern teenager using their phone to text one of his mates.

We will shoot the film tomorrow (06/12/2019).  We decided that I will act in this film. Daniel and Matthew will record the film.

The setting for the first will be in a house at an old looking table where I will act as the man that will write the letter. The second scene will be walking at an old post box that Matthew knows about. and finally the last scene will be in the house in a living room at a sofa.

Props needed:

• Camera Equipment (Cameras, microphones, gimbals, etc)
• House
• Old looking Table
• Wax Seal and stamp (if we can find it)
• Old looking sheets and envelops
• Clothes (Suit trousers, scarf, jacket/coat, leather shoes/boots, and maybe a hat)
• Smartphone
• Modern clothes (Tracksuit, runners)
• Couch/sofa

Also if we have time we will make a documentary video where we will be talking about how we done the film. What went well, what we found challenging and so on.

Mission 3 #1

I found out that for this project we can team up with people from different groups. Therefor Daniel, Matthew and myself chose to do this project together. We all have a high interest in videography and we all have different strengths and weaknesses so we can help each other in making a great project. For this mission we are finding it hard to choose a topic because they all seem pretty boring so we decided we all split the topics to read through them and explain to each other what they are about and see what we will go for.

Reading through them we found 3 of them that might have a potential. So we will read through does three and see what happens.

Mission 2 (YouTubing) #4

The presentation went way better that we thought. Although it went well we learned a few really important points that we will try our best to improve on such as being good at managing our time is very important and we need to work hard on that.

Thats it for now. Next is methodology so I need to find my team and choose the project.

Mission 2 (YouTubing) #3

Editing the makeup video was easy but it took so long. Not being interested in makeup didn't help the situation either. The video turned out a lot better than I thought. but long. I managed to get it down to 24 mins on the dot.
Unfortunately I wasn't aware that we need to present it the following week so I had no time to book the studio to get all the other shots I needed so we decided to leave the vlogging video out and focus on the presentation and the makeup video.
The makeup video do very well in a short period of time. We were happy about that.
Although we had one video me and Cliodhna were stressed out due to the fact we had no time to finish the vlogging video.

Mission 2 (YouTubing) #2

Today me and Cliodhna went to the studio room record the makeup video. I arrived there first so i decided to start the intro for the vlog and take a few b-roll shots of the studio. Once I finished that I set up the chair where Cliodhna will do her makeup video. I also got the lights set up in the right angles and got the tripod and camera ready.

When Cliodhna arrived we went straight into making the makeup video. I started recording the video but after that she didn't really need my help anymore for the moment so i decided to take a few b-roll sequences of her doing her makeup.

At the end Cliodhna and myself took the video for the blog saying that the  makeup video is just done and I took a few shots of Cliodhnas makeup all done up. The video turned out very long

Using that studio was very helpful. The makeup video turned out very well but very long (43 mins.). Starting the vlog turned out well but I couldn't get enough shots for the b-roll part of the vlog so I had to book it again.
Having the studio lights help so much in producing high quality videos. Now the next step is editing the makeup video.

Mission 2 (YouTubing) #1

Hi there, welcome back. In todays lab we are moving on the the next mission (Culture). Looking at all the options there were a few options that stood out to me the most such as memes and YouTubing.

I decided to go for YouTubing. I always wanted to start YouTube so I think this will be a good push in starting it. Now all I need is a team. I decided to text in the group 1 group chat on WhatsApp to find someone interested in YouTubing but I couldn't find someone.

In the next lab I asked around to see who is interested in YouTubing but doesn't have a team yet. I teamed up with Cliodhna. Verbally brainstorming we came up with a really good idea. Cliodhna has a big interested in makeup so we decided to make a makeup video and I will be doing a vlog/tutorial on how we done this project step by step.

We decided to ask the Helen if the photography studio is available for students to use and she said yes if we book it. So we went and did that. we want to make this look very professional so we wanted the studio lights and the white background to help us with that.

Now we just have to wait until tomorrow when we go and shoot those videos.

Blog on creativity mission #3

Justin, Eddie and myself just finished the power point for our presentation. Justin will be the first one talking about the history and research of GIF's than is going to move onto myself talking about taking the pictures and videos, editing them and sending them to Eddie. Than Eddie will talk about making the actual GIF's.

Our goal for the presentation is for all of us to talk and point out all the tasks we done to put this project together.

Blog on creativity mission #2

Hi there, welcome back to my journey. On Monday Eddie, Justin and I went into town to take the videos/pictures for the GIF. Our goal was to get a nice cinematic video of the city but that didn't turn out as well as we thought but we got some good pictures for a 3D looking cinematic GIF of Eddie which we were happy with.

We also got a funny video of myself for a fun/meme GIF. over all the day was successful and we got some nice and cool pictures/videos. On the day Justin told us about the history of GIF's. Some things we learned are that the earliest animation GIF was called "Simple Net Art Diagram and it was released in 1997. What i found interesting is that there are many tools you can use to create GIF's from using apps made for this to Photoshop.

I edited the pictures we took on Wednesday and sent them to Eddie to put them together as a GIF. My favourite one at the moment is the cinematic one of Eddie on the of a roof. Once is all done we will choose the best GIF together and finish the presentation.

Blog on creativity mission #1

Hi there, and welcome back. The previous week Eddie, Justin and I chose to do the GIF mission. 

Talking about it, we split the tasks among each other. Justin has good research skills so he chose to do the research and history of GIF's and teach us about it. I have chosen to take the pictures/videos and edit them for the GIF and Eddie is going to put the pictures/videos together as a GIF.

Looking at some examples of GIF's (https://giphy.com/search/cinemagraphs) we chose to set our goal to make a rainy cinematic looking GIF but that all depends on how the weather will be on the day we meet up to take the pictures/videos (Monday). We will be taking all sort of pictures and videos to have a variety of pictures to have a backup in case our idea doesn't go as planned.

Denis's Introduction

Hi there, my name is Denis Miculas. I'm 19 years old and i live in Clondalkin. I was born in Dublin but my parents are from Romania.

Hobbies & interests

My biggest hobbies at the moment are photography and sports.. but I also love magic (magic performance) and I'm slowly getting into videography.

I have done photography for the past year and I just love it.. I always try to improve with it although I find it hard and frustration at times. I love all the different types of photography from landscape to fashion photography and the camera I currently have is the Sony A7II. When it comes to sports I love trying out all sort of sports. My favourite sport is boxing by far. I have done boxing for 5 years but I stopped training at the end of 5th year to focus on the Leaving Cert. Now my goal is to gain some muscle mass by going gym and lifting weight. I was 61 kg when I started gym which was nearly 2 months ago.. now I am 68 kg and my goal is to get to 85 kg and I hope to achieve that by summer time. When I achieve my goal I want to go back to boxing and get my fitness level back to where it was but that will happen in the near future.

I'm a magic performer as my side hustle and my part-time job is a teller/cashier in a Credit Union. I always loved magic growing up. I started doing magic at the age of 10 but i only took it more serious 5 years ago. Now I work through a company and I mainly do events.

Seeing the list of clubs and societies in the college I will pick up 2 new hobbies, karting and surfing.

I love any song that has a good beat and sounds good. My favourite musician is Khalid by far and my two favourite song by him are Saved and Location. I also love books but I don't read them.. I listen to them mainly because I'm a very slow reader and when I read for too long I just lose the line I was reading and so on. I think I'm dyslexic but I never done a test on it so I don't know. I listen to book about business and self-improvement my favourite two books so far are "Why 'A' Students Work for 'C' Students and 'B' Students Work for the Government " and "The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck".


My career goal is to become a YouTuber and be a Real Estate Investor. I've always loved the idea of helping and inspiring people world wide and I believe YouTube is the best way to do that. Real Estate is what I believe is the key to financial freedom and that's what I want to achieve in a few years.
